Burian Paleo-Art Prints

So as some of you may know, I work at the University of Alaska Museum of the North, in the Earth Science Department as a Paleontological Artist and Databaser, drawing dinosaur fossils, surrounded by Pleistocene mammal and dinosaur bones :D

When we were cleaning out the lab late last year, I found a battered folder sitting in the back of one of the top-most cabinet spaces, and it turned out to contain a collection of Zdeněk Burian's lithograph prints.
They appear to have been in book form at one stage but are now loose leaves of paper, and sadly I do not have all 60 plates.

This artwork is so beautiful, and I remember a great quote somewhere saying that great artwork can never truly be owned, but instead be shared and enjoyed...
So I hope you find these artworks as inspirational as I have- keep in mind, the text might not necessarily match up with the pictures- as I mentioned above, there are multiple plates missing.
(this being said, I did sort them in numerical order)

Enjoy!

Stewie Werewolf Mod for AMer's!

So I wanted to post some pics, but I just spent some super time modding this rig for my next animation.
The original rigs are from, and copyright/intellectual property of Animation Mentor- namely, their Stewie and Tailor rigs.
I added the wolfy, fluffy, muzzly bits- sculpted the polygon meshes in an hour or two, then got all the colours sorted out, then had the fun time of parent-constraining the silliness.
However, I emerged victorious, so it's all good!!!
Enjoy the pictures!

Dragonday #2!

Happy 2nd Dragonday!
Dear goodness, did not see this coming, but I felt like digitally painting one of the sketches I uploaded below vvvvv

So I chose one of the snapping turtle-dragon guys, and here he is, Mr. Theodore Mead. :D Just coz.

I hope all of you that are reading my page are having a good day!
The best day of all, in fact :)
Ciao for now!

P.S. Here's another digitally-painted traditional sketch, I couldn't get enough of them today!

BAM! Socially grooming feathered therapoda all up in here!!
Me gusta.

DRAGONDAY!

Because everyday is dragonday!
Especially today, because I drew one!
See?
What, you don't see it?

I was getting way too caught up and stressed out about my animation,
so I decided to take a doodle break.
I was like, hey, sunset colours would look groovy on a dragon.
And then I realised I had inadvertently copied a colour design
from a dragon I drew 5 years ago, in my Yr 12 senior animation project.
Her name is/was Lyf-
So there you go.
I seem to recall deriving her colours from an Australian cuckoo-bird (sans the yellow).

Hope you enjoy!
Have a groovy gravy weekend!

Many, many sketches

I'm not kidding- there's like a billion.

Here is a Therapod looking at alarm at his spontaneously skinless body- poor guy.

To compare, here's a T-rex from a year ago.

And while we're at it, some other dino's from the middle of last year, whee!

CRIKEY! SNAPPING TURTLE DRAGONS!!! What has the world come to?

Preening therapods, cuz they look adorable :)

Lots of horses :D

Hands: the artists' eternal nemesis.

A bison/dragon/thingamajiggy.

An alien Burr!!

A taun-taunish inspired creature.

Alert Avian Aliens.

Alien meat-food creature guys.

Halloween costumes, I love them so...

Two little dudes.

Floating.Heads.Everywhere.

Lions and monkeys and other odd stuff.

Pachyrhinosaurs and wallabies.
What's that?
They're totally related!

Ye old Hadrosaur.

Oesophigal Wyrmalion- a scary alien parasitic symbiote.

THE END!
Hope you enjoyed the batrillion sketches!
Have a good week guys!

Animation Mentor Update and BEEF!

So shockingly, I am going to post before the end of the Semester.
In fact, I'm posting right now!
Isn't that outstanding?
I bet your mind was just like:
BOOM! BULL THROUGH PAPER!

... I dunno, it seemed like a good segue.
This is a bull I made recently for the UAF Honor Society's 'WHERE'S THE BEEF?' campaign.
Sketched out in Photoshop and drawn/coloured in Flash (I would use Illustrator, but they don't have a pressure-sensitive pen option, unless I'm mistaken).
Anyway, Flash makes every stroke look so groovy, I love using it :)

Here's a shot I just finished last week (I still need to tweak some things that my mentor Ethan Hurd noticed, so my demo reel will have an updated version of this-

Please Enjoy!
I'll be uploading some dragon/dinosaur scribbles later on today...
